Our client is an established remote SaaS company looking for an experienced Engineering Team Lead to lead the modernization of its core platform.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll combine software engineering, architecture, product thinking, and team leadership while working directly with the CEO. The position also offers a clear growth path toward Head of Engineering / CTO .
- Lead the migration from a legacy PHP/WHMCS platform to a modern web application.
- Spend approximately 50% coding and architecture and 50% leading the engineering team .
- Partner with the CEO to translate product goals into technical execution.
- Own architecture, technical direction, and migration strategy.
- Establish engineering best practices for code quality, testing, reviews, and delivery.
- Drive AI adoption across the development lifecycle to improve engineering efficiency.
- Break initiatives into clear milestones, manage priorities, risks, and dependencies.
- Track delivery, quality, and reliability through meaningful KPIs.
- Mentor engineers through coaching, feedback, and 1:1s.
- Review code, improve legacy systems, guide refactoring, and build critical platform components.
- Participate in product discussions, roadmap planning, and customer conversations to ensure technical decisions support business goals.
Your initial focus will be understanding the product and technical landscape by:
- Evaluating the current architecture and tech stack.
- Analyzing legacy dependencies, billing flows, and internal tooling.
- Identifying root causes instead of surface issues.
- Delivering a practical 90-day technical execution plan aligned with business priorities.
- 6+ years of software engineering experience.
- 3+ years leading engineering teams (4–30 engineers).
- Experience in startup or fast-paced environments.
- Strong product and business understanding beyond pure engineering.
- Fluent English.
- Strong software architecture and system design experience.
- Ability to balance speed, scalability, and maintainability.
- Experience using AI tools to accelerate software development while maintaining quality.
- Strong debugging, technical decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into business language.
