Main Purpose
- Reporting to the Plant Lead, the OT & Automation Engineer will lead OT transformation projects and LRP/SBP automation capital projects at the María Eugenia site, covering both commercial and pre-commercial plant processes. The position will play a key role in evolving operations from a manual and reactive model toward intelligent, AI-orchestrated operations aligned with the MEU plant transformation strategy.
Your mission will be to
- Drive the OT transformation roadmap at María Eugenia, evolving from manual and reactive operations toward intelligent, AI-orchestrated operations, with impact on yield, OEE, quality, and cycle time KPIs.
- Support Automation demand decision-making on medium- and long-term investment needs —systems, equipment, and infrastructure— to sustain business growth at the María Eugenia site.
- Manage capital projects and ensure compliance with automation standards, identifying new needs to improve those standards.
- Act as the OT bridge between the site and the APSe digital team, promoting lighthouse practices and accelerating the adoption of validated solutions.
- Lead the technical design and end-to-end implementation of OT and Industry 4.0 initiatives, including planning, FAT, UAT, assisted operations, and structured knowledge transfer to the Maintenance team.
- Provide technical leadership in L-Gates, considering scope, risks, and readiness of OT and digital projects.
- Design and implement solutions based on Physical AI, Agentic AI, IoT, computer vision, inline analytics, APC, and edge computing.
- Define and govern the site’s OT architecture and standards, including industrial networks, Purdue-based segmentation, hardware, software, and monitoring tools.
- Ensure reliable data flows and integrations between ERP, MES, PLC, SCADA, historian, and corporate data platforms.
- Internalize knowledge and reduce contractor dependency through operating procedures, technical manuals, and training.
- Contribute measurably to the MEU transformation value target of €8–10M through OT-enabled initiatives.
- Work closely with suppliers to improve service quality and identify strategic implementation opportunities.
- Support FAT, commissioning, and qualification activities as required.
- Monitor trends, identify deviations, and develop solutions for control systems.
- Align, together with Automation Maintenance, OT and automation standards, best practices, design guidelines, change management, and lifecycle policies.
- Act as second-level technical support for complex OT incidents, networks, and integrations, while daily operations, backups, restore, and troubleshooting remain under the responsibility of the Maintenance team.
Unlock your potential
- University degree in Automation & Control Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Digital Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent.
- Advanced or fluent English.
- Experience in requirements gathering, design, configuration, integration, and implementation of process control solutions for the manufacturing industry, including PLC/DCS systems, HMI packages, SCADA, and PC networking technology.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, advanced manufacturing technologies, field instrumentation, and batch processes, covering all project phases: requirements documentation, detailed design, implementation, integration, testing, and on-site commissioning.
- Strong knowledge of corporate and process network architecture, industrial protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, and MQTT, and IT/OT networking concepts including VLANs, firewalls, IDS/IPS, segmentation, and DMZ.
- Hands-on experience in Industry 4.0 and digital manufacturing: IoT, computer vision, inline analytics, APC, edge & cloud, and MES integration. Exposure to Physical AI or Agentic AI will be valued.
- Familiarity with OT monitoring platforms such as Claroty, Nozomi, Dragos, or Tenable.ot, and with stage-gate / L-Gate methodology. ISA/IEC 62443 certification will be valued.
- Knowledge or experience with IT Security regulations such as ISO 27001 / IEC 62443 will be valued.
- Experience in innovation and capital project management, including project leadership, change management, and stakeholder management, with the ability to operate in matrix structures —site, regional, and global APSe— and translate strategy into execution.
