Job Description
As part of Platform Services you and the team will be charged with developing and building software that keeps our AWS database platforms reliable at scale and enabling our client teams. Key responsibilities of the AWS Database SRE Engineer are:
- Design, build and maintain software and automation that keep our AWS database fleet reliable, observable and self-healing.
- Write production-grade code in Python and Java to remove manual toil, codify operational knowledge and improve mean time to recovery.
- Own SLOs, error budgets and the reliability roadmap for managed database platforms such as RDS, Aurora and DynamoDB.
- Build the monitoring, alerting and diagnostics that give engineering and support clear insight into platform health.
- Partner with product engineering and Site Reliability leaders to feed reliability and supportability requirements back into the product.
- Lead resolution of the most challenging database and infrastructure issues, then engineer
This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:
- Hands-on experience with AWS, especially managed database services such as RDS, Aurora or DynamoDB
- A software engineering mindset applied to reliability: you solve operational problems with code rather than manual effort
- Understanding of AI and ML concepts, with the ability to analyse AI use cases and build solutions that incorporate AI as part of the design
- Strong software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages: Python, Java, Go, C++
- Experience designing, building and running resilient services, with an understanding of SLOs, error budgets and on-call
- Understanding of cloud, virtualization, APIs, and modern software design
- Experience with infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Jenkins
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Splunk, DynaTrace, etc.
- Experience building fullstack solutions on cloud platforms
- Understanding of agile and lean philosophies, and the ability to collaborate with different roles to achieve common goals
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to management teams.
