About the role
As a Sr System DB2 Software Engineer, you will make an impact by ensuring the performance, availability, security, and reliability of DB2 database environments running on IBM Mainframe platforms. You will be a valued member of the Database Engineering team and work collaboratively with infrastructure, application support, and operations teams to deliver scalable, high-performing, and resilient database solutions.
In this role, you will:
- Administer, maintain, and support DB2 databases within large-scale Mainframe environments.
- Perform DB2 installations, configurations, upgrades, migrations, and ongoing maintenance activities.
- Monitor database health, capacity, and performance, implementing tuning recommendations to optimize system efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents, production issues, and performance bottlenecks.
- Manage backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and database security processes to ensure business continuity and compliance.
- Support application teams with SQL tuning, query optimization, and database design reviews.
- Ensure database availability, reliability, and adherence to organizational standards and best practices.
- Participate in critical production implementations and on-call support activities as required.
Work model
We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in a Cognizant office and 2 days per week working remotely.
What you need to have to be considered
- 10+ years of hands-on experience supporting and administering DB2 databases in IBM Mainframe environments.
- Strong expertise in DB2 Administration, Utilities, Backup & Recovery, and database performance management.
- Proven experience with DB2 Performance Monitoring, SQL Tuning, and query optimization.
- Strong knowledge of Mainframe technologies including z/OS, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and DB2 Utilities.
- Experience performing database upgrades, migrations, and security administration activities.
- Advanced English communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience supporting mission-critical production environments.

- Experience with COBOL, CICS, or other Mainframe application support technologies.
- Exposure to large enterprise environments with high availability requirements.
- Experience with disaster recovery planning and implementation.
