You’ll work on a large, high-traffic Ruby on Rails 8 application that serves as a public-facing website, editorial CMS, and integration hub for ticketing, event-management, and CRM systems. The work combines new feature development with modernization, performance improvements, security enhancements, and strengthening third-party integrations within an established production codebase.
Location
Fully remote position within LATAM.
Candidates must be able to maintain at least 4 hours of daily overlap with Eastern Time.
Contract Duration
Fixed-term contract with potential for extension.
Language Requirement
Advanced English. Professional fluency in written and spoken English is required.
What you'll do
- Build and extend features across a large Rails 8 application, including models, controllers, background jobs, and server-rendered views.
- Develop interactive front-end experiences using Hotwire, Turbo Drive, Turbo Frames, Turbo Streams, Stimulus, and Tailwind CSS.
- Improve and extend an internal Rails-based CMS and contribute to component-based content authoring experiences.
- Build and strengthen integrations with third-party ticketing, event-management, and CRM platforms using REST APIs, webhooks, and scheduled synchronization.
- Design resilient integrations with retry logic, idempotency, failure handling, and automated reconciliation.
- Build and operate Sidekiq workflows with attention to concurrency, ordering, and failure scenarios.
- Design and develop versioned APIs supporting mobile applications and downstream consumers.
- Improve application and PostgreSQL performance ahead of high-traffic seasonal events.
- Implement caching strategies, contribute to load testing, and support CDN and automated scaling initiatives.
- Write meaningful automated tests and contribute actively to code reviews and technical decision-making.
What you'll bring
- 5+ years of professional Ruby on Rails experience, including substantial experience working within large existing production codebases.
- Recent experience with Rails 7 or Rails 8.
- Strong production experience with Hotwire, Turbo and Stimulus.
- Strong PostgreSQL knowledge, including schema and index design, query optimization, EXPLAIN analysis, and N+1 troubleshooting.
- Experience designing background jobs using Sidekiq or equivalent, including retry strategies, idempotency, queue isolation, and failure handling.
- Strong experience integrating third-party APIs and webhooks.
- Automated testing experience with RSpec or Minitest, request specs, and system/integration testing with Capybara.
- Strong semantic HTML and Tailwind CSS skills.
- Experience building accessible interfaces aligned with WCAG 2.1 AA.
- Familiarity with authentication, authorization, OAuth2/OIDC, token/session management, and role-based access control.
- Experience with observability practices including structured logging, metrics, and APM tools.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work proactively within distributed teams.
What will make you stand out
- Experience deploying Rails applications on Heroku or another managed PaaS, together with AWS services such as S3.
- Experience with Hotwire Native on iOS or Android.
- Experience developing CMS or content-modeling solutions using Action Text, Trix, ViewComponent, Phlex, or component-based page builders.
- Experience with search technologies such as PostgreSQL full-text search, Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Typesense, or Algolia.
- Experience supporting high-traffic or event-driven applications and performing load testing ahead of major traffic peaks.
- Experience with CDN and edge caching technologies such as Fastly or Cloudflare.
- Rails security remediation experience using tools such as Brakeman and bundler-audit.
- Experience with Ruby/Rails version upgrades and large-scale dependency migrations.
- Exposure to media, entertainment, live events, ticketing, membership, or subscription products.
