At Emi Labs we are on a mission to increase Frontline Workers’ access to professional opportunities.
This is a 2.7 billion population that accounts for 80% of the world’s workforce. They are digitally invisible, as there’s little to no data available on who they are, their career history, or their skill set, limiting their access to professional opportunities and growth. We're here to transform this by building the infrastructure to make Frontline Workers visible.
Our first step to achieving our mission is to transform the recruiting experience into an easy, human and fair process, for both candidates and companies with high-volume job openings.
Emi, our main product, is an A.I. recruitment assistant that enables companies to engage in a conversation with each applicant to detect interested and qualified individuals while saving Recruiters a huge amount of time by automating tasks such as screening, validating skills, scheduling interviews, and collecting documents.
We were part of Y-Combinator's Winter 2019 batch and in 2022 we have raised an $11M funding round co-led by Merus Capital and Khosla Ventures.
Everything at Emi works around helping frontline workers access better professional opportunities. Our Recruitment Product organization builds the core product that powers that journey end to end, from a candidate's first interaction through interview and hire. You'll lead three small, focused product engineering teams (around 7 engineers total) that own different parts of that journey.
You'll lead and grow the people across three product engineering teams, while working closely with Product to shape and execute the roadmap for the recruitment product. You'll be part of the Engineering leadership team, partnering cross-functionally to translate business priorities into team-level execution, and making sure each team has the technical support it needs (via tech leads and architects) to move fast without you having to be the deepest technical expert in the room.
- Lead and grow small product engineering teams, owning people management end to end: 1:1s, feedback, performance, and career development for every engineer.
- Partner closely with Product to translate priorities into roadmap and execution, and represent your teams' constraints and trade-offs back to stakeholders.
- Coordinate dependencies and unblock work across your teams and the rest of Engineering.
- Actively surface knowledge concentration and technical debt within your teams, and drive them to resolution, partnering with tech leads and architects on the hardest technical calls.
- Own hiring for your teams end-to-end, from defining needs against the roadmap to closing offers.
- Champion a data-driven engineering culture, establishing key metrics for delivery, quality, and team health, and using them to guide prioritization and decisions.
- Drive adoption of AI tools across your teams: use them yourself to increase your own leverage, and help your engineers build AI-native habits into their day-to-day work.
- Improving recruiter productivity by building recommendations and bulk actions that let them manage hundreds of candidates at once
- Designing and launching a new attraction-phase experience for applicants, instrumented like a marketing funnel so we can measure and optimize conversion from first touch onward
- Building resilient integrations with external client systems and job boards
- Scaling interview scheduling and coordination across high-volume clients
- 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams, with a proven record of building and growing high-performing teams
- Experience managing multiple teams or workstreams at once
- Comfortable partnering with senior tech leads and architects without needing to be the deepest technical expert yourself
- Strong product sense and ability to partner with business stakeholders and manage up
- Track record of growing engineers' careers through direct, actionable feedback and real development plans
