Senior Mainframe Automation Engineer
Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Automation Engineer to lead the migration and optimization of mainframe automation solutions. This role focuses on transitioning from CA OPS/MVS to IBM Tivoli Systems Automation for z/OS and from CA Automation Point to IBM Systems Automation for Integrated Operations Management (SAIOM). The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring operational efficiency, system availability, and seamless automation processes within a complex z/OS environment.
You will collaborate closely with the Automation team to implement policy-based automation solutions, reduce administrative overhead, and enhance system responsiveness. This position does not impact application development but will significantly influence automation strategies and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead migration projects from CA OPS/MVS to IBM Tivoli Systems Automation for z/OS and CA Automation Point to IBM SAIOM.
- Configure and implement IBM Systems Automation solutions, including policy-based automation for z/OS environments.
- Develop and maintain automation rules, REXX execs, and System Automation Policy Database (PDB) configurations.
- Provide installation and configuration assistance for IBM automation products.
- Collaborate with operations teams to optimize system startup, shutdown, and recovery processes.
- Ensure high availability and efficiency of critical systems through proactive automation strategies.
- Document processes, configurations, and migration steps; deliver clear communication to stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot and resolve automation-related issues in production environments.
Mandatory Skills and Proficiencies:
- Mainframe Operations Expertise: Minimum 5+ years in a mainframe operations environment in an operational, service, consultancy, or support role.
- IBM Tivoli Systems Automation for z/OS: Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience.
- TSO and ISPF: Proficient in using these tools for system management.
- JCL: Strong skills in Job Control Language.
- REXX Programming: Ability to write and maintain REXX scripts.
- System Automation Policy Database (PDB): Working knowledge required.
- Migration Experience: Proven track record in z/OS automation migration projects.
- NetView for z/OS: Experience in implementing and using this product.
Preferred Skills and Proficiencies:
- Knowledge of other IBM Z software, including system operation, configuration, and automation.
- Familiarity with z/OS system startup and shutdown processes.
- Experience with SMP/E for software installation and maintenance.
- Understanding of competing automation products in the mainframe space.
- Expertise in fully automated system configurations on IBM Z.
Has more than a year of relevant work experience. Solid understanding of programming concepts, software design and software development principles.
