At Trinetix we are looking for a skilled Interface Engineer to join our team. If you're passionate about healthcare data interoperability, thrive on solving complex integration challenges across clinical systems, and are excited by the opportunity to work with modern HL7/FHIR standards while supporting critical patient care infrastructure — this is your chance to make a real impact.
Core Responsibilities
Integration Development
-
Design, develop, and maintain healthcare data integrations using HL7 v2.x, FHIR, and API-based standards to enable interoperability between EHR/EMR systems, laboratory information systems, radiology platforms, and third-party clinical applications.
-
Build and manage interface channels using integration engines such as Mirth Connect, CorePoint, Cloverleaf, or similar platforms - including message routing, data transformation, error handling, and monitoring - to ensure reliable data exchange across healthcare systems.
-
Write and maintain SQL scripts to support interface mapping requirements, including crosswalk tables, correlation logic, and lookup configurations within integration engine environments; document underlying database structures to support long-term maintainability and knowledge transfer.
Technical Documentation
-
Develop technical specifications and interface documentation for integration projects, including data mapping requirements, message flow diagrams, system architecture designs, and implementation guides to support project execution and ongoing maintenance.
Production Support & Troubleshooting
-
Troubleshoot and resolve interface errors and data flow issues in production environments, performing root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and coordinating with vendors and internal teams to minimize system downtime and maintain data integrity.
-
Participate in change control processes and system upgrades, coordinating testing activities, validating interface functionality, and supporting go-live events to ensure seamless transitions and minimize impact to clinical operations.
-
Support ongoing production monitoring, issue triage, and resolution for live JV interfaces against defined SLAs to ensure consistent data availability and minimize operational disruption across partner environments.
-
Handle variability across multiple upstream EHR and vendor systems with non-standard HL7 implementations, developing adaptive message transformation logic to maintain data integrity and prevent downstream clinical and RCM impact.
Stakeholder Collaboration
-
Collaborate with clinical, IT, and business stakeholders to gather requirements, assess integration feasibility, and translate operational workflows into technical solutions that support patient care delivery and administrative processes.
-
Develop working knowledge of RCM system configuration - including provider setup, payer plans, charge codes, and vendor IDs - to support accurate interface design and effective collaboration with revenue cycle operations teams.
Compliance & Security
-
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and security standards, including HIPAA requirements, meaningful use criteria, and organizational policies for protected health information (PHI) handling and secure data transmission.
Team Development
-
Provide technical guidance and support to integration team members, sharing best practices, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to the development of standardized processes and procedures for interface management.
Requirements
-
Hands-on experience with healthcare integration engines (Mirth Connect, CorePoint, Cloverleaf, or similar)
-
Proficiency with HL7 v2.x messaging standards and FHIR
-
Strong SQL skills for interface mapping, crosswalk tables, and data transformation
-
Experience with RESTful APIs and SOAP web services in a healthcare context
-
Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems, lab information systems, and radiology platforms
-
Solid troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills in production environments
-
Understanding of HIPAA requirements and PHI handling standards
-
Ability to work effectively with both technical and clinical stakeholders
Nice-to-Haves
-
Experience with EDI transactions and flat-file transfer formats
-
Exposure to RCM systems and revenue cycle workflows
-
Familiarity with meaningful use criteria and regulatory compliance frameworks
-
Experience coordinating system upgrades and go-live support events
-
Background in mentoring or leading junior integration team members
