What does a JavaScript & Python Developer do at WPP Production?
WPP Production is looking for a Junior JavaScript & Python Developer with a focus on creative automation. This role builds and maintains Photoshop plugins using Adobe's Unified Extensibility Platform (UXP), and supports the production pipeline through Python-driven batch processing and dynamic asset generation.
This role works closely with the California tooling team and reports directly to the Lead Photoshop Screen Artist in California.
Develop and debug in-app Photoshop panels and dialogs using JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, and CSS within the UXP environment.
Build standalone Python scripts for high-volume data processing and image manipulation tasks that feed into the Photoshop workflow.
Automate repetitive production tasks such as bulk resizing, filtering, and multi-format exports using the Photoshop DOM API and Python libraries such as Pillow or OpenCV.
Create logic to automatically generate design variations by injecting data from REST services directly into Photoshop layers.
Write bridge scripts that allow JavaScript plugins to trigger and communicate with Python back-ends for tasks such as AI inference or bulk metadata handling.
Connect Photoshop workflows to external RESTful services using Fetch (JS) or Requests (Python), ensuring live data is accessible within the creative environment.
Strong foundational skills in JavaScript (ES6+) including Async/Await and Promises for handling API responses and plugin lifecycle events.
Practical experience with Python for scripting and automation; familiarity with image processing libraries (Pillow, OpenCV) is a plus.
Solid understanding of HTTP methods and JSON data structures for RESTful communication.
Familiarity with (or eagerness to learn) the Adobe UXP Developer Tool and Photoshop's internal DOM.
Fundamental knowledge of Git for collaborative coding and managing feature branches.
Degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Development, or a related technical field; 1–2 years of experience in a scripting or automation role.
Passion for automation — finding ways to turn hours of manual repetition into a single button press.
Comfortable switching between front-end UI tasks (JavaScript/CSS) and back-end logic (Python).
Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
Team player who communicates clearly and proactively with both the local and California teams.
Highly organized individual who can manage workload independently across different time zones.
