M. Hudson Design is looking for a talented 3D Vegetation Artist & Texturing Specialist to create highly realistic, optimized vegetation assets for luxury residential landscape and architectural visualization projects.
This role is ideal for someone who has a strong eye for realism and understands how to build detailed plant assets that also perform efficiently within large, complex 3D environments.
You will create a wide range of vegetation including trees, palms, shrubs, flowers, grasses, groundcover, tropical plants, and specialty or exotic species based on photographs, botanical references, and project-specific plant lists.
We are looking for someone who can take an asset from modeling through texturing, optimization, and final delivery while maintaining a high level of visual quality and botanical accuracy.
- Work on high end residential landscape and architectural visualization projects
- Create detailed vegetation libraries used across real client projects
- Opportunity to model a wide variety of tropical, native, and exotic plant species
- Collaborate directly with landscape designers and 3D visualization artists
- Focus on both artistic realism and technical asset optimization
- Contribute to the continued development of our internal 3D asset library
- Remote work opportunity
The 3D Vegetation Artist & Texturing Specialist will be responsible for creating realistic vegetation assets that can be used efficiently within large-scale landscape and property renderings.
You will model vegetation from reference images, photographs, botanical information, and plant lists while ensuring each asset accurately represents the scale, structure, and appearance of the real plant.
Because our scenes may include hundreds or thousands of vegetation instances, strong optimization skills are essential. You should understand how to maintain visual realism while managing polygon counts, texture resolution, LODs, and rendering performance.
- Create realistic 3D models of trees, palms, shrubs, flowers, grasses, groundcover, and exotic vegetation
- Model vegetation accurately from photographs, botanical references, and provided plant lists
- Create both high-detail and optimized versions of vegetation assets
- Develop realistic PBR textures and materials
- UV unwrap and properly texture vegetation assets
- Create and bake normal, roughness, opacity, ambient occlusion, displacement, and other required texture maps
- Create clean topology and efficient UV layouts
- Retopologize and reduce polygon counts while maintaining visual quality
- Create multiple Levels of Detail (LODs) when needed
- Prepare vegetation assets for scattering and instancing across large landscape environments
- Optimize models and textures for scenes containing large quantities of vegetation
- Test assets within real-time visualization and rendering environments
- Organize and deliver source models, optimized models, textures, materials, and export files using established naming standards
- Collaborate with landscape designers, 3D artists, visualization specialists, and project managers
- Professional experience creating 3D vegetation, environmental, landscape, or organic assets
- Strong 3D modeling skills with an emphasis on realistic organic forms
- Strong understanding of plant and tree structure, proportion, scale, and visual realism
- Advanced understanding of PBR texturing workflows
- Experience with UV mapping, texture baking, retopology, and polygon optimization
- Ability to create realistic assets while maintaining efficient real-time performance
- Understanding of vegetation scattering, instancing, LOD systems, and large-scene optimization
- Strong attention to detail and botanical accuracy
- Ability to work independently and follow technical specifications
- Strong organization, communication, and follow through
Strong experience with one or more of the following is preferred:
- Blender
- Autodesk Maya
- Substance 3D Painter
- ZBrush
- Unreal Engine
- Twinmotion
- Unity
- SketchUp
Experience transferring assets between multiple modeling programs and rendering engines is highly valued.
Experience with SpeedTree, PlantFactory, Geometry Nodes, Megascans, or similar procedural vegetation tools is also a plus.
- Architectural visualization
- Landscape architecture visualization
- High end residential or property rendering
- Game or real-time environment asset creation
- Virtual production or VR environments
- Procedural vegetation workflows
- Unreal Engine or Twinmotion vegetation pipelines
- Creating optimized vegetation libraries for large-scale scenes
A portfolio or demo reel is required.
We would especially like to see examples of:
- Trees, palms, plants, shrubs, flowers, grasses, or groundcover you personally created
- Realistic PBR texture work
- Wireframes and topology
- UV layouts and texture maps
- High-poly and optimized low-poly versions of assets
- Vegetation integrated into architectural, landscape, or large-scale rendered environments
Please clearly identify which portions of each portfolio project you personally created.
If you are a 3D artist who specializes in realistic vegetation and enjoys combining detailed modeling with strong technical optimization, we would love to see your work.
Please apply with your resume and a link to your portfolio or demo reel showcasing relevant vegetation and texturing projects.
